Foothills Dance Academy provides the opportunity for its students to train and complete ballet examinations through the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD). RAD is a world recognised ballet syllabus with comprehensive levels for students of all ages and abilities, and options for students to complete marked Examinations, assessed Class Awards and Solo Performance Awards. Although examinations are not compulsory, they are highly recommended. Participating in examinations give students a purpose to their training, a goal to work towards and teaches them about working hard to achieve greatness. Examinations also provide independent assessment of a student's progress for teachers, students and their families. Entries into examinations are at the teacher's discretion. Foothills Dance Academy wants every student to have a positive experience and to be proud of their achievements.

RAD Examinations:

From Primary in Dance through to Grade 8 and Intermediate Foundation and above, students are eligible to enter into RAD Examinations. Students enter into the examination room in groups of up to four candidates. They perform a series of exercises and dances taught by the teacher as set by the RAD. Successful candidates receive a certificate, medal and report complete with an overall mark.

RAD Class Awards:

For students who do not wish to participate in examinations or who aren't quite ready yet, they have the option to do a Class Award. The Class Award is open to students in Pre-Primary in Dance through to Grade 5. Students enter the Class Award in groups of up to eight candidates and are accompanied by a teacher, who instructs the students throughout the Class Award. The examiner observes and assesses students, who receive a participation certificate, medal and report with no overall mark.

RAD Solo Performance Award:

An extra oppurtunity for students to perform solo dances in an examination, the Solo Performance Award can be completed in Grades1-5. Students prepare two dances from the RAD syllabus and a third solo in any style of dance.

RAD Dance to Your Own Tune:

Students as young as 2 can now start their ballet examination journey with the RAD's Dance to Your Own Tune. Students enter into the examination room with a teacher and present a themed class to the examiner. This is just a fun and relaxed way to introduce students to RAD examinations.
